Sandra Wood Consulting
Sandra Bellamy Wood has over thirty years of experience as a performer, vocal instructor, and choral and stage director. During that time she has served as Director of Music in various churches in North Texas, operated The Voice Studio in Wichita Falls, Texas (1984-1998), directed over 15 community musical theatre productions and performed in over 35 shows. She has worked with performing arts organizations across North Texas to design and coordinate music events and festivals. She also established and directed two nonprofit arts organizations that increased community participation across all art forms.
CHURCH MUSIC
Sandra served as Music Director and guest conductor of several churches across North Texas including: Trinity Presbyterian Church (Wichita Falls, TX), Park Place Christian Church – PPCC (Wichita Falls, TX), and St. Philip’s United Methodist Church (Garland, TX). During her tenure at PPCC, she ‘expanded’ the music ministry to include: Liturgical dance, drama, hand bell, and children's choirs. In addition to directing music for all church services, Ms. Wood orchestrated fund raisers, annual galas, and dinner theater productions. Proceeds from each event helped to underwrite the costs of music equipment, instruments, choir robes, and other supplies for the church music program.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Sandra designed and directed the Art for Kids Sake, an art and music education program which toured throughout Texoma engaging over 5,000 youth per year from 1994-1998. The Art for Kids Sake roster included varied media: children’s opera, visual arts, musicians, dance, and drama. A roster of artists representing various media introduced children to the visual and performing arts, where they learned the basic elements of each art / musical form. These elements were then connected to other areas of the general curriculum (math, history, language arts, etc.)
The Art for Kids Sake program received the 1996-97 Partners In Education award for its work with children and teens. Partners in Education (PIE) of Wichita Falls connects businesses, organizations, and individuals with schools to enhance student learning. PIE strives to leverage skills, talents, and resources to reinforce the district's mission to prepare all students to become lifelong learners who are productive, responsible, and participating members of society. Each year 13 awards are presented to individuals and organizations for their work toward this endeavor.
EVENTS & FESTIVALS
Ms. Wood also designed and implemented various programs in southern Dallas County (2008-2012) including: music theatre, urban street art, open mic nites, art/music classes, and annual music festivals and events (Roxy ArtFest, Cinco de Mayo, FrightFest, ArtSlam, Urban Streetfest, and others). Each event featured 50-75 vendors and visual artists. Local and touring musicians and performers were featured. Events also included opportunities for audience participation, such as contests, sing-alongs, and community murals. All attendees were encouraged to pick up a paint brush and contribute their 'expression' and artful ideas to the mural.
